Learn more about the therapy process and my practice

+ Where are you located?

My office is located in the Cool Springs area of Brentwood, right off of I-65, with easy access to Nashville, Brentwood and Franklin. I also provide online therapy sessions for clients located anywhere in Illinois or Tennessee.

+ What is therapy and how does it help?

Therapy is a process of exploring thoughts, feelings, behaviors and relationship patterns. This happens in the context of a trusting relationship with a trained professional who is invested in seeing you thrive. Therapy is a unique process to each individual and no two people will ever be able to say they “did therapy” the same way.

In my practice, therapy always involves a few defining elements: time set aside for you and only you; a trained professional who is an expert at hearing what you are saying, what you are not saying and how you are saying (or not saying) it; an exploration of the experiences and relationships that have molded your life up to this point; a focus on the ways in which you’d like your life to change; and identification and training of emotional skills that will help you to get there. For more information on the therapy process, check out my blog posts about what therapist can and can’t do.

+ What happens in a therapy session?

During the first session, we will discuss the reason you are seeking therapy and talk about your goals for working together. I will have lots of questions so I can get a 360 degree view of your life and your relationships, past and present.

In subsequent sessions, our conversations will be guided by you. I will ask “what would it be most helpful for us to focus on today?”, if you don’t already have something in mind. For more information about what happens in therapy and how to get the most out of your sessions, see my post What Happens in a First Therapy Session?.

+ What times are available for appointments?

I offer appointments Monday-Friday during the hours of 9am-5:30 pm. I operate a boutique therapy practice and dedicate myself to being available to each client that works with me. I never overbook or double book. My schedule fills on a first-come, first-served basis.

+ How does online therapy work?

The busyness of life does not have to prevent you from accessing the benefits of therapy. I offer video sessions through a completely secure and confidential, HIPPA-compliant video conferencing portal built on the reliable and powerful Zoom platform. Because this platform can be used on any computer, tablet or smart phone, sessions can be completed anywhere you are that is private.

I work with some clients exclusively online; and with others, I utilize online counseling as a way of maintaining continuity in our in-person work. I am licensed in both Illinois and Tennessee can work with anyone within these states online.

+ What are the benefits of online therapy?

Online counseling removes a significant barrier for many people to attending psychotherapy- namely, that of getting to a physical office each week. Online sessions also allow me to be more available in scheduling, thus providing greater flexibility for you.

Some people that appreciate the convenience of online sessions include those who travel frequently for work; new moms with difficulty securing childcare; those who live far from my office locations but want to work with a therapist who has my areas of expertise, and those with illness or injury that prevents them from accessing an office on a regular basis.

+ How often will I meet with you?

Therapy works best when sessions are weekly. Momentum is important and I want my clients to get everything they possibly can out of the time they commit to the process. Sometimes people want to meet less frequently, but then find themselves making slower progress and end up remaining in therapy longer. For this reason, I will always recommend meeting weekly. But, I am always open to discussing a less frequent schedule for sessions if my schedule allows and if it is appropriate for the client based on my clinical judgement.

+ What is the financial investment?

15 Minute Initial Phone Consultation- Free

First assessment session (60 minutes)- $175

Individual therapy session (50 minutes)- $150

+ Do you accept insurance and/or FSA/HSA Cards?

I am not contracted with any insurance company. It is important to me that therapy remain 100% confidential (that your mental health information is not shared with any outside entity, including insurance); and that treatment is aligned with what is best for the client rather than what is best for the insurance company.

Upon request, I can provide documentation for any insurance provider for out-of-network reimbursement. Insurance often reimburses at least a portion of your therapy costs when handled this way, or at least allows you to count your fees toward your deductible. I have created this page to help provide a guided process to obtaining insurance reimbursement for services.

I accept payment in form of check, credit card and FSA/HSA cards.

All paperwork and payment is paperless using the client portal, and most clients opt for automatic payments using this portal.
